Yorkie & Yorkshire Terrier Information

Yorkies are a true ‘personality’ breed, providing years of laughs, love, and close companionship. They are sprightly, vigorous dogs who excel not only as companions but also as therapy dogs. Most of all, they love to be with their people and make fine little watchdogs. The Yorkie’s body is neat, compact and well proportioned. They have dark eyes that sparkle with a sharp, intelligent expression. Their high head carriage and confident manner gives the appearance of self-importance.
Yorkies are long-lived and hypoallergenic, their coat being more like human hair than animal fur. They have fine, silky hair that can grow lusciously to the ground that will need regular grooming. These dogs have a lot of energy and are very intelligent, making them very trainable and entertaining. They can be territorial so they may need extra care when being introduced to other animals. Despite this, even novice pet parents and apartment dwellers will find these dogs to be excellent furry family members.
The Yorkshire Terrier is a small breed of terrier dog. They originated in the United Kingdom in the town of Yorkshire, from where they get their name. They were first bred to catch mice and rats, so they are often fast and energetic. Yorkies earned their living as ratters in mines and mills long before they became the beribboned lapdogs of Victorian ladies. Nowadays, they are one of the top most popular dog breeds in America.
